A Streetcar Named Desire Essay Research Paper free essay sample

A Streetcar Named Desire Essay, Research Paper The Realistic View-Point of A Streetcar Named Desire Through out the 20th century, many great authors have come along and altered the populace? s ideas of normalcy, and in many instances shocked their audiences by showing them with the barbarous truth. This is precisely what the play A Streetcar Named Desire accomplished. Whether, deliberately or accidentally, Tennessee Williams succeeded in exemplifying the demand to bury what was in the past and stressed the thought of looking in front to the hereafter. The usage of realistic play at the clip were about unheard of, and Williams succeeded in going an pioneer by puting the foundation for the usage of dramas with subjects of pragmatism in modern dramatic theatre. ? Williams synthesizes deepness word picture, typical of play that strives to be an semblance of world, with symbolic theatrics # 8230 ; In short, pragmatism and the theatricalism, frequently viewed as phase challengers, complement each other in this drama ( Mary Ann Corrigan, 575 ) . ? Thomas ( Tennessee ) Lanier Williams was born on March 26 1911, in Columbus, Mississippi. His male parent, Cornelius Coffin Williams, was a shoe salesman who spent a good trade of his clip out on the route off from his household. Williams had two siblings, one older sister and one younger brother. The kids spent most of their childhood in the place of their maternal expansive male parent who was an Episcopal curate. In 1927, Williams received his first gustatory sensation of literary acclamation when he placed 3rd in a national essay competition, for his essay entitled? Can a Good Wife Be a Good Sport? . ? After high school Williams studied for several old ages at the University of Missouri, but dropped out before he received a grade. Williams so took a occupation in St. Louis at the International Shoe Company where his male parent worked. Williams did finally return to college and received a grade from the University of Iowa in 1938. In 1939, Williams moved to New Orleans where he officially adopted the name? Tennessee, ? which was the province of his gramps? s birth. In 1945 Williams had his first existent large success as a author, with his drama? The Glass Menagerie? doing its debut on Broadway. Williams went ain to compose 25 full lengthier dramas, including A Streetcar Named Desire, he produced tonss of short dramas and screen dramas, two novels, sixty short narratives, over one 100 verse forms, and an car life. For these plants Williams received many awards including two Pulitzer Prizes, one for A Streetcar Named Desire, and four New York Drama Critic Awards, one for A Streetcar Named Desire ( Tom Sullivan, 1 ) . When asked by a newsman why he began composing, Williams replied by saying? Why did I compose? Because I found life Unsatisfactory ( Steven Daniels,1 ) . ? ? Williams has written some of the most moving play of the modern theatre ( John Whitty, 575 ) . ? The realistic constructs displayed in A Streetcar Named Desire are best exemplified through the conflicting characters of Blanche DuBois, and Stanley Kowalski. Blanch posses as an semblance established in an attempt of prolonging her normalcy, portraying herself as a Southern belle, a all right, cultured, beaming immature adult female. This false sense of individuality is put up as a forepart to hide the world of her individuality as a lonely, alcoholic, prostitutive adulteress. This disenchantment is forced out of her by Stanley, the barbarian womaniser, who possesses animalistic values. Stanley succeeds in depriving off Blanche? s false egoistic semblances and coercing her to confront his animalistic world ( Mary Ann Corrigan, 575 ) . This incident is symbolically represented in the play when Stanley forces Blanch into the direct visible radiation of the lamp, symbolically edifying her on the absurdness of her disenchantment. These two character service as contrasting figures representative of the mundane battle of world poetries disenchantment, in which world, as it did in the drama, normally comes out as the master. The one key factor which makes this drama realistic is the fact that Williams gives the character both positive and negative personality traits, which makes the drama easier to associate to by the audience and makes the secret plan seem like it truly could hold occurred. In puting the characters of Blanche and Stanley against each other, Williams depicts an image of the weak being defeated by the strong. Dispite this fact, Stanley represents an equivocal moral character. Even though he possess a unsmooth outside of animalistic and barbarian values he truly loves and needs his married woman ( Mary Ann Corrigan, 575 ) . Therefore farther increasing the overall credibility of the play and adding to the credential grounds of its realistic content. Blanche DuBois is the prototype of the tragic hero. She is a liberated adult female who Michigans at nil to acquire what she wants. Her tragic defect lies in her false pretenses, and disillusioned position s of what life is truly similar. ? Blanche is frequently regarded as a symbol of disintegrating tradition, beauty, and polish pitted in a losing conflict against the petroleum verve of the progressive mainstream ( Felicia Hardison Londre, 79 ) . ? In the contention of Blanche poetries Stanley, it is apparent that Williams sides with Blanche. Evidence to support this theory can be found in Williams response to a newsman after he was asked about the significance of the play? s main male character, he stated? [ A Street Car Named Desire ] means that if you do non watch out the apes will take over ( Joseph Wood Krutch, 462 ) . ? This is evidently in mention to over powering nature of Stanley? s beastly strength. With this statement Williams is stating his audience non to allow travel of all that is beloved to you and all the hopes you have for the hereafter, because the? apes? [ Stanley ] will coerce you to discard these desires. Through out this play, Williams uses many objects and actions symbolically of the greater internal struggle that lied deep with in the confines of Blanche DuBois? s psyche. Evidence of this symbolism can be found in the gap scene when Blanche shows up to meet Stella. We learn that the two sisters? plantation, called Belle Reve, has been lost due to fiscal fortunes environing it. the name Belle Reve is symbolic it that the word Belle is the feminine signifier of the adjectival beautiful in French. While the word Reve is the masculine signifier of the noun dream. It has been proposed by many bookmans that the original rubric of the plantation was Belle Rive, which means Beautiful Shore, and the corruptness of the name from Belle Rive to Belle Reve is symbolic of the false goon of it world that it has acquired by the clip it has come to Blanche? s coevals ( Felicia Hardison Londre, 89 ) Another specific illustration of symbolism can be found in the context of chapter three. In this chapter Blanche makes the statement? I can? t stand a bare visible radiation bulb, any longer than I can a unsmooth work or a vulgar action. ? She than asks Mitch to set a colored paper lantern over the sleeping room lamp. This lamp is symbolic of world and the truth behind her yesteryear. She can? t bare the fact that she is an alcoholic, a hobo, and a lonely has-been, so she conceals it and covers it up with a forepart of fancied edification and appeal, merely as she covered the lamp with a colourful paper lantern. More grounds to support the lamp as an object of symbolism can be found in scene eight of the play. This is the scene in which Mitch as merely learned the truth about Blanche? s secret yesteryear. Mitch confronts Blanch about this cognition he has of her and rips the paper lantern off of the room lamp, in an attempt to acquire a better expression at Blanche since he has neer seen her in the visible radiation of twenty-four hours. Blanche cries out for him to halt and provinces, ? I don? T want pragmatism. I want thaumaturgy! # 8230 ; I don? T Tell truth, I tell what ought to be truth ( Felicia Hardison Londre, 92 ) ? Another object of heavy symbolism in the play are the many wore drobes that Blanche possesses. While they may look exquisite, elaborate, and really expensive, they are really all made of man-made stuff and are really inexpensive in value and quality. This is symbolic of the forepart Blanche puts up for her ego, while she may look capturing, beautiful, and sophisticated, when you examine her more closely it is revealed that she is nil but a corrupt, lying, prostitute. Tennessee Williams is evidently one of the most advanced dramatists of modern theatre. Through his drama, A Streetcar Named Desire, he set the phase for realistic secret plans and characters to unite with conventional theatrical dramatics, for an overall dramatic show. Through his usage of realistic characters, whom the audience could associate with, every bit good as humanising his characters with personality strengths and defects, Tennessee Williams portrayed a realistic play that his audience can associate to. The Characters of Blanche and Stanley, are two characters that the audience could believe were existent people. I see other equals at school, which I view as holding the same personalities, every bit good as the same strengths and failings as Blanche and Stanley. You can see other existent life people through the characters in this play and this was, I feel, was done deliberately by Tennessee Williams in order to pull a closer tie between his play, and existent life. Through his play A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams has become the true pioneer of modern dramatic theatre. List of Works Cited 1. Londre, Felicia Hardison et all. Tennessee Williams. Living Proof - State Champs free essay sample

State Champs have quickly become one of the key players in the pop-punk revival happening now. â€Å"Living Proof,† the latest release from the Albany, NY, rock band further secures State Champs’ place as a mainstay in the new pop-punk scene – even if the record is pretty typical pop-punk. But typical pop-punk is by no means a bad thing; far from it, in fact. The highlight of this album is the passion that Derek DiScanio brings with his voice on every track. An unexpected favorite on the record is â€Å"Time Machine.† This song takes a slower approach and is not quite as pop-punk as most of the other tracks. However, this allows DiScanio’s voice to be the focus, and the passion and emotion that he brings to the track makes it a standout. The feature of Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus is great as well. The lead single from the album, â€Å"Dead and Gone,† is reminiscent of All Time Low and is another one of the best tracks on the album. We will write a custom essay sample on Living Proof State Champs or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The chorus is big and catchy and features some excellent guitar work by lead guitarist Tyler Szalkowski. I really appreciate the use of more mellow picking on the verses, as it offers a nice reprieve from the usual palm-muted power chords that are so prevalent in pop-punk music. Unfortunately, I found many of the tracks blending into one another due to their similarities. This does not mean that the songs are bad, it just means that the album as a whole can get a bit repetitive, despite each song being very good. A strong suit of State Champs on this record is great choruses. The choruses are infectious and powerful, due in part to DiScanio’s strong vocal performance. â€Å"Living Proof† is a marked improvement over 2015’s â€Å"Around the World and Back,† It delivers strong choruses and excellent vocal work, despite getting repetitive after a full listen-through. State Champs keep improving with each release, and I am excited for any new music coming from them.

A Paragraph Narrative Essay Sample

A Paragraph Narrative Essay SampleThe following paragraph narrative essay sample is a great starting point for writing the first of many great writing assignments. By the time you finish this sample, you should have a more defined idea of how to compose a fine story. In this example, you will create a good little narrative from the rest of the pages of the first chapter. Of course, you do not want to start at the beginning - starting from the end would be too confusing! Also, you need to make sure that you keep the story simple, and also you need to make sure that you don't go too far in the beginning - as this may confuse the reader at first.Let's start with a few paragraphs of the paragraph narrative essay sample. I am going to start in the middle, since this will give you a good sense of how to develop your narrative in the rest of the text.First, there is the scene that sets up the beginning of the first paragraph narrative essay. Then, there is a dialogue, and then there is an ac tion or sequence of events that leads to the scene that sets up the second paragraph. So, in the first paragraph narrative essay, we look at the first scene (the dialogue). We also look at the character's responses (which relate to their character and their background, and which may be either accurate or inaccurate) and we look at how these characters will react to a particular situation. Then, we look at the next scene, the one that sets up the second paragraph, and we look at how the dialogue and the response will affect the characters' actions in the second paragraph. As you can see, this is a typical, and fairly short paragraph narrative essay. However, the point of this paragraph (or section) is to establish the structure of the main sections. This will allow you to decide what order to work the main sections into, and it will also allow you to decide what events to include in the first and second paragraphs, and what events to leave out.If you are wondering about what to do with the rest of the text, this paragraph narrative essay sample is very good for starting the project. You can follow the first two paragraphs, then add the rest of the story, in the order it is described in the first paragraph. You can also add additional paragraphs to this paragraph, adding a few more scenes to the story.

Americas M4 Sherman Tank, a WWII War Machine

America's M4 Sherman Tank, a WWII War Machine The iconic American tank of World War II, the M4 Sherman was employed in all theaters of the conflict by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, as well as most Allied nations. Considered a medium tank, the Sherman initially had a mounted 75mm gun and had a crew of five. In addition, the M4 chassis served as the platform for several derivative armored vehicles such as tank retrievers, tank destroyers, and self-propelled artillery. Christened Sherman by the British, who named their U.S.-built tanks after Civil War generals, the designation quickly caught on with American forces. Design Designed as a replacement for the M3 Lee medium tank, the plans for the M4 were submitted to the U.S. Army Ordnance Department on August 31, 1940. Approved the following April, the goal of the project was to create a dependable, fast tank with the ability to defeat any vehicle then currently in use by Axis forces. In addition, the new tank was not to exceed certain width and weight parameters to ensure a high level of tactical flexibility and permit its use over a wide array of bridges, roads, and transportation systems. Specifications M4A1 Sherman Tank Dimensions Weight: 33.4 tonsLength: 19 feet, 2 inchesWidth: 8 feet, 7 inchesHeight: 9 feet Armor and Armament Armor: 19-91 mmMain gun: 75 mm (later 76 mm)Secondary armament: 1 x .50 cal. Browning M2HB machine gun, 2 x .30 Browning M1919A4 machine gun Engine Engine: 400 hp Continental R975-C1 (gasoline)Range: 120 milesSpeed: 24 mph Production During its 50,000-unit production run, the U.S. Army built seven principle variations of the M4 Sherman. These were the M4, M4A1, M4A2, M4A3, M4A4, M4A5, and M4A6. These variations did not represent a linear improvement of the vehicle but rather changes in engine type, production location, or fuel type. As the tank was produced, a variety of improvements were introduced, including a heavier, high-velocity 76mm gun, wet ammunition storage, a more powerful engine, and thicker armor. In addition, numerous variations of the basic medium tank were built. These included a number of Shermans mounted with a 105mm howitzer instead of the usual 75mm gun, as well as the M4A3E2 Jumbo Sherman. Featuring a heavier turret and armor, the Jumbo Sherman was designed for assaulting fortifications and aiding in breaking out of Normandy. Other popular variations included Shermans equipped with duplex drive systems for amphibious operations and those armed with the R3 flame thrower. Tanks possessing this weapon were frequently used for clearing enemy bunkers and earned the nickname Zippos, after the famous lighter. Early Combat Operations Entering combat in October 1942, the first Shermans saw action with the British Army at the Second Battle of El Alamein. The first U.S. Shermans saw combat the following month in North Africa. As the North Africa campaign progressed, M4s and M4A1s replaced the older M3 Lee in most American armor formations. These two variants were the principle versions in use until the introduction of the popular 500 hp M4A3 in late 1944. When the Sherman first entered service, it was superior to the German tanks it faced in North Africa and remained at least on par with the medium Panzer IV series throughout the war. Combat Operations After D-Day With the landings in Normandy in June 1944, it was learned that the Shermans 75mm gun was incapable of penetrating the front armor of the heavier German Panther and Tiger tanks. This led to the rapid introduction of the high-velocity 76mm gun. Even with this upgrade, it was found that the Sherman was only capable of defeating the Panther and Tiger at close range or from the flank. Utilizing superior tactics and working in conjunction with tank destroyers, American armor units were able to overcome this handicap and achieved favorable results on the battlefield. Operations in the Pacific and Later Due to the nature of the war in the Pacific, very few tank battles were fought with the Japanese. As the Japanese seldom used any armor heavier than light tanks, even early Shermans with 75mm guns were able to dominate the battlefield. Following World War II, many Shermans remained in U.S. service and saw action during the Korean War. Replaced by the Patton series of tanks in the 1950s, the Sherman was heavily exported and continued to operate with many of the worlds militaries into the 1970s.

Value and Risk Management Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Value and Risk Management - Article Example The company would be required to present before the attendees of this workshop with the bits of details about the project, such as the budget, pre-requisites, aims and the likes of it. This will help the attendees to understand the following arguments and requirements for the success of the project in a much better and elaborated manner. While the site for the same is yet to be decided, taking a peep at the various factors that might, in effect, make for the success of this project will help understand the project better. The project is targeted, apart from enhancing its regional presence, to make it easier for the customers and clients to approach the company. The project is focused at incorporating some of the important features like tour facilities for the prospective clients, giving a peek view into the kind of services and technology employed by the company. Secondly, the headquarters would provide office accommodation to over 12 staff members, recruiting the same for management and administrative purposes. Thirdly, it will also have an inbuilt workshop for the hi-tech light manufacturing processes, which will have another of 15 or more staff members recruited under head. While the foundations of the project do aim at solving the purpose behind the formulation of regional head quarters, it is essential here to examine a few factors that might help enhance the project and its establishment even better. The project has been allotted a set amount of funds. For the project to succeed, while the deadline is important, it is also of value for the project to remain within the boundaries of the set budget. In order to do the same, scoping of the whole project comes in handy, and that is what we will be doing here, as a part of the value management service. It needs to be seen if the project being offered by the company will in truth be able to come to terms with the reasons being cited for the project. Secondly, it also needs to be ascertained, if there are ample resources that can make the project successful in terms of requirements. To do the same, there is a "Job Plan" that will exploit various aspects involved in the project that are required to be referenced when discussing the project in general. Job Plan Dividing the whole process of value management to identify the strengths or weaknesses of the project will help the reader gain a better grounding of the whole scenario. Further, in this pre stage, the company managers would be required to understand, identify and explain to all involved the importance of the project, along with the aims that the project is trying to achieve. With detailed information and analysis, the people involved will be able to get a brief idea of the way project is to proceed, hence, enhancing the general output by those involved in the project. The Job Plan can be divided into four main stages - information gathering, alternative generation, evaluation and conclusion. Information Gathering In this first step, the need to identify all the requirements for the project will be looked into. Before beginning with the project, the company would be required to identify a location or site, keeping in mind the budget for the project. Once the site for the headquarters is identified, the next process of building the project would begin. This next process would

Sexism - Social work Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Sexism - Social work - Essay Example Religious writings the date back two thousand years ago illustrate how women were thought to be of no essence. 1 Timothy 2:16 â€Å" I permit no woman to teach or have authority over men. She is to keep silent.† Thus, the term sexism has been far more associated with discrimination against females. When society began to depict the roles of men as heads of nations and kingdoms, pioneers of expeditions and discoveries, brave heroes of war, engineers of technology and infrastructure, great thinkers and philosophers, etc., it unconsciously instilled prejudicial thoughts -- that there exists an inferior gender, the female gender. In the years to come, the â€Å"battle of the sexes† would not be limited to the male and female genders but to the transsexuals as well. (Wikipedia: The Free Encyclopedia, 2007) The rise of the feminist movement which began in the late 19th century of the western society was a result of years of suppressed freedom, restlessness, frustration and oppression. As women were labeled by men as the â€Å"weaker sex,† they were denied access to education, suffrage, political representation, employment and equality under the law. The clamor for change and equality became a resounding battle cry of the feminist movement. They protested about double standards dictated upon by society in which, they argued, were exclusively favorable to men. It is not surprising then how the movement has evolved through modern times. When once their sole purpose was focused on creating equal opportunity for women, they became hungry for dominance and authority by suppressing men and propagating negative views about them and thus, have become instigators of sexism as well. Transsexuals are also victims of sexism. They have been openly criticized as having gender identity disorders which are psychological in nature. They are often the recipients of verbal abuse and have been labeled as fags,
